Definition: The misalignment of two eyes is called a squint/strabismus.

Introduction: The squint in ADULTS is either from childhood which is most often caused by a defective circuit in the brain; even-though otherwise all the neural functions are absolutely normal. If it is not from childhood, adult squint is caused by loss of vision or defective eye muscle function in adult hood.

The squint in the adulthood may lead to following defects

  1. Double vision
  2. Social embarrassment
  3. Difficulty in professional / personal life
  4. Poor eye to eye contact
  5. Loss of binocular vision (inability to use both eyes together)
  6. Loss of stereoacuity (3 dimensional vision)
  7. Abnormal head posture (head tilt or face turn)
  8. Decentered and/or narrow visual fields

The treatment of squint in adults include:

Prismatic glasses: At Jyotirmay Eye clinic, we provide prism glass trial and dispense Fresnel prisms or ground glass prisms for patients with small angle squint who are having bothersome double vision.

Squint Surgery: The squint surgery is a minor surgery on eye muscles that is quite safe and effective. It is never done with LASERs. At Jyotirmay Eye Clinic, squint surgery is performed by the latest technique called fornix incision, adjustable suture technique. The entire surgery is performed through a small hole that allows quick recovery and comfort to the patient postoperatively. Download PDF
